JOHN AUXIER, Ph.D.
Your Marriage & Family Counselor
Dr. Auxier is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Washington State, and a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (AAMFT).
Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Dr. A came to faith through the ministry of Young Life. After graduating from the University of North Dakota, he was in full-time pastoral work for 12 years. He also has experience as a psychiatric social worker, an addictions counselor, and in more recent years, a marriage counselor in private practice.
Dr. A is Associate Professor of Marriage & Family Therapy at Trinity Western University, and the Associate Dean of Trinity Western Seminary. He's married to artist Doris Hutton Auxier, and has three wonderful adult children. He is an ordained minister with the Evangelical Free Church.

An avid fan of popular culture, he has a special interest in the relationship of psychology & theology, technology and spirituality, and the intersection of comics, video games and relationships.

COUPLES COUNSELING
People are created for connection. We all long for a secure "attachment", a safe place with a caring partner who can help us face life's challenges.
Counseling can help couples identify their unique "dance" of pursuit/withdraw, discover "raw spots" and repair attachment injuries with one's partner with new found understanding and connecting skills.
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
Like ice bergs, there's a lot more to a person than meets the eye. At the heart level, people yearn to belong, to matter, to be loved. Often we draw conclusions about these yearnings in the families we grow up in, where we develop expectations and strategies to help us meet our needs. Therapy helps people unpack their yearnings, understand the rules and roles they live by, and discover creative heart change.
PREMARITAL PREPERATION
Couples face unprecedented challenges today. Together with your counselor you'll use the respected Prepare Inventory to assess strengths and growth areas in your relationship.
Dr. A offers a six hour premarital course to help you put your best foot forward in the adventure of Marriage.
COUNSELING FEES

Sessions are $120.00 per 50 minutes of counselling (1.0 hour rate), or $180.00 per 75 minutes (1.5 hour rate).
*Some assessment tools (ie. DISC, Marital Satisfaction Inventory, Prepare Inventory) require an additional fee. -
Payment due for each session on the day of counselling. Checks can be made out to “Better Places Therapy”.
